He fixed the collar on his shirt, he was wearing a pink Mickey Mouse pullover over a plaid shirt with black jeans and penny loafers. For the first time in a long time Brenda was wearing her hair down. She had a navy blue and white striped blowse on with denim blue waiste high jeans and navy blue flats on. Michael smiled, closing the door behind her.
"Hey, so Dr. Doolittle right?" Michael walked over to the couch.
"I guess so," Brenda smiled slightly, she looked a little worried or depressed about something. Michael turned to her as she followed him to the couch. He could see in her eyes that something was wrong, he wasn't gonna just drop it or let it go.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing," Brenda smiled and plopped herself on the couch.
"Are you sure?" Michael asked.
"I'm positive," Brenda laughed and crossed her legs indian style. Michael put the cassette in the VCR and sat down next to her. He looked at her through the corner of his eye every now and then as they both sat in silence. He laughed at their favorite scenes and looked at her to see if she was laughing, she just smiled. He grabbed the remote and paused the tape.
"Brenda are you sure you're okay? We always laugh at that part... Especially you.." Michael turned to her. Brenda sighed and looked down.
"Talk to me..." Michael said softly, he didn't want to seem as though he was forcing her to speak, but he did want to know what was wrong. A tear rolled down Brenda's face, turned her back to him so he wouldn't see her cry. He reached out his hand and touched her shoulder, "Brenda.."
"Okay..." She took a deep breath, "Since you're a guy I didn't want to talk about it with you.. but... You're my bestfriend so.. I can..."
Michael looked around, he didn't want to be considered her bestfriend, it was too strong. He wanted to be more than friends, "Mhm.."
"Well... That guy.. Spike.. I really liked him. Now Lisa is dating him. She was supposed to be my friend," Brenda said. Michael felt a little jealous, he bit his lip to keep his thoughts in his own mind. He nodded his head for her to continue.
"He told her I was nothing to him, and that she was everything to him all along.." Brenda said.
"So... You really liked that guy?" Michael asked. He couldn't believe his ears, he hoped he heard her wrong.
"Yes, I thought that he liked me too but apparently not. I just.. I don't know. I've never had a boyfriend before, I've never even kissed a boy before! I just wanna know what it's like.. Lisa was supposed to be my friend and.. I don't know," Brenda said.
"You told me you kissed Jeremy Fletcher in twelth grade..." Michael was confused.
Brenda sighed, "I lied... I was just trying to make you jealous," She laughed a little. Michael didn't laugh, nor did he look away from her, he was a little upset and happy at the same time.
"Why were you trying to make me jealous?" Michael asked.
"...I had a small crush on you back then, but not anymore," Brenda confessed.
"Why not anymore?" Michael asked, he didn't relize he'd asked it just all came out that way. He bit his lip again, a little embarrassed.
Brenda looked down, "I don't know, you're all ... Different now.. If I still liked you.. You wouldn't like me back anyways, with all the girls you can get. People love you, Michael," Brenda looked back up and smiled.
Michael laughed, "None of the people who love me actually know me.. You know me.. But.. Nevermind.." He didn't want to go on with the conversation, he already felt hurt that she didn't like him.
"Did you used to like me? Ever?" Brenda asked. Michael took a deep breath, he felt like telling her he liked her at that moment.
"Um.. In twelth grade.." Michael said.
"Oh..." Brenda looked around. There was a moment of silence, no one knew what to say after the awkward conversation.
"Hey, since I haven't had my first kiss.. And I lied to you about kissing Jeremy Fletcher.. You should kiss me.. I mean just as friends.. That's all. I mean, atleast I'll be able to say my first kiss was with my bestfriend, someone sweet.. And kind... And means well," Brenda said shyly. Michael smiled, he wanted nothing more but to kiss her.
"Are you sure?" Michael asked. Brenda nodded and smiled as her heart skipped around in her chest. Michael's heart was beating nearly right out of his. He leaned forward, not realizing his hand was on Brenda's knee. They both tilted their heads and found themselves finally in a kiss.
Michael could taste her strawberry lip balm as they pulled away from eachother. He was as nervous as the definition explained. Brenda opened her eyes and smiled. So did Michael, he couldn't believe he kissed her.
"I really should get going... My mother should be expecting me home any minute," Brenda felt weird, she grabbed her purse. Michael walked her to the door, "Um, okay,"
"I'll see you.." Brenda smiled and stepped outside.
"Okay," Michael smiled too, he felt like there should be more. He closed the door. Brenda stood in front of the door in shock, she had this weird feeling all of a sudden. She sort of in a way had a crush on Michael all of a sudden.
