The doorbell rang, Brenda fixed her hair in the mirror andquickly sprinted to the door and opened it. It was Michael in a UCLA varsity sweater, he looked so cute Brenda tried not to smile too big. He gave her a red rose and kissed her on the cheek.
"Are you okay? You look a little nervous?" Brenda laughed a little as she took the rose.
"I am nervous," Michael took a deep breath.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine. What's the most he can do?" Brenda shrugged as they headed into the kithcen where her father was setting up the table.
"Either ask me a bunch of questions or not say anything at all, and both could be bad," Michael said quietly.
"It'll be fine, stop worrying," Brenda said. Mr. Talia set his last plate down on the table and looked up at Michael, "Hey Michael," He said. Michael smiled, "Hey," He pulled out a chair for Brenda, as she sat down he took a seat himself.
"I'll be right back I have to go get the roast," Mr. Talia smiled and headed into the kitchen. Brenda was suprised he was behaving. "Breathe," She whispered to Michael, he was so afraid of Mr. Talia being angry with him that he looked as though he was holding in all of his breath.
Mr. Talia came back, setting the roast on the table. It was smothered in vegetables, it smelled and looked delicious. "Dig in," He said. They all fixed themselves a plate, Michael didn't take too much or too little, just the right ammount.
"So Michael, why do you like Brenda?" Mr. Talia asked. Michael saw it comming. He quickly took a bite of his roast to stall time before having to answer. He chewed it quickly so it wouldn't look obvious. Brenda looked embarrassed of him asking.
"Because she's a friend and a lover all in one," Michael smiled.
Mr. Talia raised his eyebrows, Michael quickly started again, he hadn't relized how many ways someone could take the word "lover" and use it. "By lover I mean she's very kind and understanding. Very generous and outgoing and she cares about me and I care about her," Michael said.
Mr. Talia took a sip of water from his glass. "Brenda why do you like Michael?" He asked. Brenda looked at Michael, trying not to giggle at the fact that her father had asked them both, which was unexpected. "Because he's nice," She said.
"That's it?" Mr. Talia asked.
"No..." Brenda said quietly, she felt shy with his asking.
"Then what else?" He asked.
"He's kind and he's sweet and he likes me for who I am. No one can do any better than that," Brenda ate some rice. Michael smiled, he liked the way she put her sentence. Mr. Talia chuckled a little, "I just love how uncomfortable I'm making the both of you," He said sarcastically, "Loosen up guys I'm not trying to torture you," He laughed.
Brenda and Michael laughed a little, this made Michael feel like everything was somewhat back to normal. They would always laugh at the smallest things, the entire family when they were with Michael.
"Do you want kids?" Mr. Talia asked Michael.
"Yes," Michael said as he took a sip of water. Mr. Talia looked a little disturbed.
"In the future of course," Michael smiled.
"Better be the future," Mr. Talia joked a little, Michael could tell he was serious though.
After dinner Brenda and Michael sat in the livingroom watching TV. Every now and then Mr. Talia would act like he forgot something just to make sure they weren't doing anything. It was frustrating but Brenda could deal with it. Mr. Talia came walking through the livingroom again.
"Have you seen my-"
"Dad, we all know you haven't lossed anything," Brenda said. Michael tried not to laugh.
"Okay fine, I just don't want you guys to do anything. I heard that song, PYT. We can dim the lights just to make it right, the lights are dimmed and I don't know what you two are gonna do," Mr. Talia said.
Brenda and Michael laughed, "Dad get out!" She pushed him playfully. He was rediculous.
"Don't think just because I'm not in there that I can't hear you! If it's too quiet I know what's going on! If I hear giggling I know what's going on! If I hear smacks I know what's going on!" He went on and on as he walked up the stairs. Brenda rolled her eyes and snuggled up against Michael on the couch.
