Chapter Twelve:

"Dad, you really should forgive Michael, after all it wasn't his fault. It was my idea to drive to San Francisco, and he was only trying to help.. I was gonna run away and he picked me up to make sure that i'd be okay," Brenda explained to her father as he drank his morning coffee in the kitchen.

"No," Mr. Talia said sternly.

"Please?" Brenda poked her bottom lip out and gave him her puppy eyes. He rolled his eyes and looked away frustratedly, "That stopped working when you ten,"

Brenda pursed her lips together.

"Okay, sixteen," Mr. Talia shook his head and continued drinking his coffee. Brenda laughed, her dad was a big push over if she got him where she wanted him. Those puppy eyes were working, just a few more seconds to go and she'd get anything she wanted.

"Please..." Brenda said, "It really wasn't Michael's fault, Michael is my bestfriend, my only friend, without him i'm all alone. You don't want me to be alone do you?" Brenda whined.

"Make new friends," Mr. Talia said, keeping a straight face.

Brenda sighed, he wasn't giving in as fast as she thought he would. "Come on... Do you really think Michael would do anything to harm me? We've been friends since high school... I'm an adult, but you treat me like a child. The only reason I haven't moved out is because of college and the only reason I even go to college is because of Michael, but when I'm done with school you can't keep us away from eachother forever because I'm leaving," Brenda said.

Mr. Talia didn't say anything, she could tell he was beginning to be more upset than the first time. "Fine," He said.

Brenda smiled, she waited a second to see if he was serious or not. "Thanks dad!" She smiled and kissed him on the cheek, he pursed his lips and looked the other way.

"By the way," Brenda said as she headed out of the kitchen, "Michael and I are... dating," She said. Mr. Talia spit out his coffee, she walked out of the kitchen as fast as she could.

"Get back here!" Mr. Talia called. Crap. Brenda thought.

"Yes?" She asked.

"Since when? Behind my back!?" Mr. Talia said.

"Just since last night that's all, I was gonna tell you but..." Brenda quickly thought of a cover up, "But you got angry with him and told him to stay away from me so I was scared," She felt bad for lying, it was atleast half way true.

Mr. Talia took his glasses off and set them on the counter, "So what were you two really doing in San Francisco then?" He asked, disapointed.

"Nothing I swear," Brenda put her hands up. Mr. Talia took swears seriously. And so did Brenda.
