Chapter Eleven:

The moon shined over the house as Michael pulled up in the driveway home after a long day of rehearsal and recording. He walked in the house and set his military styled jacket on the coat hanger.

"Hey Mike, you had a phone call from Brenda," Janet said, she sat on the couch with a bowl of chips and turned on the TV.

"How long ago?" He asked.

"About... Thirty, fourty-five minutes," Janet shrugged.

"Oh, okay thanks." Michael walked upstairs and dialed her number, praying that Mr. Talia wouldn't pick up. His heart raced fast with every ring.

"Hello?" it was Brenda, he sighed of relief.

"Hey, did you call?" Michael asked.

"Yeah, I did... I wanted to ask if we could've met up to talk but it's late now my dad won't even let me out of the house. He treats me like a child," Brenda said angrily.

"I was busy, I'm sorry... Does your dad still hate me?" Michael chuckled a little.

"He doesn't hate you..." Brenda laughed, "He just doesn't like you either anymore.."

"Yeah 'cause that's so much better," Michael said sarcastically.

"Ugh I'll call you back in a little bit my dad is comming," She said.

"Alright then, bye" They both hung up. Michael went to change into his pajamas, he looked at the door, indecisively.

Michael looked at the tree from the ground all the way up to it's hightest branch. This is going to take forever.. He took a deep breath and started climbing. He could feel the bark ripping the skin from the palm of his hands.

He finally reached the top, he knocked on Brenda's window lightly, so he wouldn't scare her. It took her a few minutes before she moved the curtain. She looked shocked, she opened the window, "Michael what are you doing here?" She whispered.

"We need to talk. Or I need to talk to you... sounds better," Michael said.

Brenda looked back at the door to make sure her dad wasn't comming. She held her hand out to help him into her bedroom, he climbed inside and shut the window behind him. Brenda smiled and hugged him tightly, for the first time Michael felt differently about the way they hugged. It had much more meaning than ever before.

Brenda sat on her bed, grabbing her ragedy stuffed bunny rabbit with one eye missing. Michael looked at it and laughed, "You still sleep with Lulu?" He asked, grabbing the bunny's ears.

"No... I just have her on my bed still," Brenda smiled. Michael rolled his eyes and laughed.

"Well... I wanted to talk to you about... Us," Michael said nervously. Brenda looked up at him, "Oh no..."

"No, no.. It's not bad," Michael walked back and forth so he wouldn't have to look her in the eyes. He was feeling more nervous than any other time he'd had before. "You know I like you, and I know you like me..." Michael said, taking a deep breath.

Brenda nodded, "Mhm,"

"And.. I'm tired of just half way showing it.." Michael looked at her out of the corner of his eye.

"Yeah..." Brenda said nervously. Michael felt like he could hear both of their hearts beating.

"And I know this may not be the best time, since your dad is so upset with me... But... I just wanted to ask..." Michael stopped, he couldn't keep walking back and forth, he knew it was the easy way out of showing his true feelings. He sat down next to her and looked her in the eyes. She looked down, too shy to look back at him. Michael gently pushed her chin up, "Look at me..."

She looked at him, her eyes were beautiful. "I was wondering if... You could be my girl?" Michael asked. He felt like crawling into a box and rolling down a hill and never comming out, he was so embarrassed. He only prayed there'd be no rejection.

Brenda just looked at him, Michael waited, hoping she'd finally say something.

"Are you okay?" He asked, "I'm sorry... Did I make you feel uncomfortable?" Michael backed up a little, it'd never been this awkward between them before.

"Of course I'll be your girl Michael, that's all I've ever wanted in the first place... I'm just so.. Suprised," Brenda hugged him again, Michael smiled as they pulled away from eachother.

"You scared me for a second..." Michael said. He leaned forward to make the first move, he kissed her gently. He felt her hands rubbing against his neck as she kissed him back. Michael ran his fingers through her hair, it felt like silk against each one. He was nervous but he wouldn't dare stop, he didn't want to ruin the moment.

Brenda pulled him down on top of her as she laid back on the bed, Michael felt his heart speed double. He kissed her neck gently, she laughed a little. Michael smiled, "What's so funny?" He asked.

"It tickles," Brenda smiled. Michael laughed and kissed her neck again, she squirmed around giggling and grabbing his hands which were now wrapped perfectly around her waist. He didn't stop, Brenda laughed and covered her face, but she didn't want him to stop. They heard frootsteps outside of her bedroom, Michael jumped up, so did Brenda.

They hesitated and stared at eachother, "Um... Go in the closet! Go in the closet!" Brenda whispered. Michael ran to the closet, struggling to open the door as the footsteps grew closer. "Hurry up!" Brenda whispered. Michael finally opened the door, there were clothes everywhere, Michael forgot how messy she was. He closed the door and sat on top of the pile of clothes uncomfortably.

Mr. Talia knocked on the door, "Umm, just a minute!" Brenda dived on her bed to act naturally. "Okay come in!" She said.

"Hey I'm going to get Chinese food, want anything?" Mr. Talia asked.

"Oh, no thanks, it's late.." Brenda faked a yawn and rubbed her eyes.

"Are you sure?"

"Positive," Brenda said, just to get him out of her room.

"Okay," Mr. Talia closed the door and headed out of the house. Michael waited a few seconds just incase he came back. Brenda waited to hear the door, "Okay you can come out now,"

Michael opened the door, "You should really consider cleaning up in there..." He shook his head.

Brenda sighed of relief, "That would've been all bad if he would've saw you.." She said.

"I know, it's late... And this is my only chance to actually use the door." Michael said, "So I should get going,"

Brenda laughed a little, "Yeah you're right," She walked him down stairs and opened the door for him, they weren't sure if they should kiss or just say goodbye. There was a long awkward pause and silence, Michael smiled and kissed her, "I love you..."

"I love you too," Brenda felt as though she was going to faint. Michael headed home as quickly as he could.
