The sounds of the rushing waters from the waterfall rang through Michael's ears as he looked up at dawn's beautiful sky. He loved dawn and dusk more than any other time of the day. He felt that at those times, true beauty awaked, and that's when everything became as it was. He heard the door slide open, it was LaToya.
"The phone," She said.
"Who is it?" Michael asked.
"Um.. It's a girl, I think it's Brenda?" LaToya winked and walked back into the house. Michael smiled a little embarrassed and walked into the house. He picked up the phone hanging on the wall, hoping no one was listening from another room in the house, "Hello?"
"Michael...?" It was Brenda.
"Yeah?" Michael said.
"Hey um, I don't think we should be friends anymore, I mean... I know we're bestfriends... But... I just..." Brenda's voice trailed off. Michael's jaw dropped a little.
"What? What do you mean? Why?" Michael asked, his voice trembling.
"I just... Okay the truth is I really like you Michael and I just can't seem to be just friends without feeling hurt each day. I don't know how all of this happened but it's suddenly become okay for us to kiss and everything, and we are not friends with benefits, we were bestfriends... I just can't do this anymore," Brenda said.
Michael took a deep breath, "You started this whole thing, you wanted me to kiss you, you kissed me first to impress Lisa and then I don't know I thought it was okay so I kissed you next and now it's not okay?" Katherine came walking into the kitchen, he lowered his voice so she wouldn't hear what he was talking about. Even though he knew he'd be venting to either her or Janet in no time. He trusted them most.
"I'm sorry Michael, I know.. It's not you, it's me," Brenda sighed, her voice was shakey.
"I don't know what to say... Does this mean we'll never talk or see eachother again?" Michael asked. Brenda remained silent. Michael felt like hanging up on her, but he didn't want his frustrations to take over, he felt like he loved Brenda. She was breaking his heart.
"Brenda I like you too, I love you, you can't do this to me," Michael said quietly, he turned around to see what Katherine was doing. She was minding her own business and cleaning around.
"You don't have to say these things just to make me feel better, maybe in due time we'll get past this... But for now, bye," Brenda hung up the phone. Michael stood there blankly with the phone sitll to his ear. He hung it up and walked up to his bedroom, he sat on his bed resting his forehead on the palm of his hands. He couldn't believe what she'd done. He couldn't let her get away.
