The scent of about a thousand different flowers all hit Michael's nostrils at once. Jermaine picked up some roses, finally Michael thought. They'd been in the Gypsy's Garden for over thirty minutes exactly. What was so hard about picking out some flowers for a girl you like? Michael had to remember that Jermaine hardly ever knew anything about the women he tried to impress until later in his relationships.
"Hey, why don't you get flowers for Brenda? That will make her happy and she'd talk to you again," Jermaine advised. Michael shrugged and shook his head. Flowers wouldn't change one single thing. Plus they weren't even dating. Jermaine shrugged and went to go pay. Michael waited near the door.
Jermaine headed out of the store, Michael close behind him. "I just don't understand what went wrong..." Michael said as they got in the car. He put his seatbelt on and sunk down in his seat. Jermaine stared at him.
"You really like Brenda now all of a sudden don't you?" Jermaine put his seatbelt on. Michael sat up, "No I just don't want to lose such a good friend," Michael didn't want Jermaine to know he liked her, it'd get around within the whole house and everyone would be teasing him.
"Michael you're a horrible liar. Everyone can see that you like her, you always have," Jermaine laughed a little. Michael sighed and tried not to allow Jermaine to see him smile.
"See," Jermaine started the car and headed home.
"Okay fine, I like her... A little... But, that's not why I'm upset about not talking to her. I'm upset because she's more importantly my friend... My best friend..." Michael said, agony in his voice. Jermaine kept his eye on the road, but looked over at Michael every now and then as he spoke.
"Well Michael... Don't you think if you guys were dating, and then broke up... That somethin like this would happen anyways?" Jermaine asked. Michael thought for a moment.
"What do you mean?" He asked. He already knew exactly what Jermaine meant, he just wanted a better and more clear understanding. He knew he was right.
"Well..." Jermaine paused as he turned the corner, "Let's just say you asked her to be your woman. Then you guys would be in love and so on, then you'd break up with her and she'd hate your guts and be depressed and you'll never talk again," Jermaine shrugged his shoulders apethetically.
"I would never break up with her. I really like her... Sometimes I think I love her... As more than a friend, like as if... As if..." Michael shook his head.
"As if you're in love with her?" Jermaine asked, his eyebrows rising.
"Yeah..." Michael looked out of the window. He couldn't believe he was conversating with Jermaine about girls. Usually he'd hear Jermaine, Jackie, and Tito talking about these kinds of htings.
"No.. You're going way too far now," Jermaine laughed. Michael didn't laugh, he didn't say anything. Jermaine stopped laughing, he relized Michael was serious about this.
"Well... Then this could hurt you most. What if she broke up with you? That'd hurt you... And then you guys would never-"
"Jermaine how is this helping me at all?" Michael asked, he was getting a little frustrated. Jermaine didn't say anything. There was an awkward silence. "I really like Brenda, and besides liking her she is my bestfriend. I love her and I don't ever want to lose her. I'd rather stay her bestfriend forever and watch her get married like Diana did even though I care so much about her than never talk to her again!" Michael's voice was shaking.
"You're still on that whole Diana thing...?" Jermaine asked. Michael folded his arms, "That's not the point Jermaine... I'm saying I want my friend back.."
"I'm sorry... I didn't know how serious you were about all this... Why don't you call her up... And tell her you guys need to talk. Go to her house or something and talk things over. Or take her somewhere nice first of all, and then talk to her? I don't know..." Jermaine suggested.
They pulled up in their driveway, Michael un buckled his seatbelt, "Maybe I will..."
